Dolby Atmos uses object-oriented mixing to layer independent audio elements through discrete channels, moving three-dimensional sound effects around the theater with astonishing realism. The format adapts to any home cinema layout incorporating height channels for a more enveloping soundfield with extremely accurate directional and overhead effects.

THX certification guarantees the same high-volume sound you experience in a multiplex cinema. Your PR-SC5530 processor has passed more than 2,000 laboratory tests to ensure every aspect of audio performance meets rigorous standards for cinema-reference sound. THX Ultra2 Plus is recommended for screen-to-seat viewing distances greater than four meters and for room volumes 85 cubic meters or greater.
Engineered for Audio-Video Perfection
Cutting-edge audio-video processing and handcrafted construction combine to deliver a vivid and immersive entertainment experience. At the heart of the PR-SC5530 is a massive customized toroidal transformer supported by two separate EI transformers for A/V processing, which is controlled by dual 32-bit DSP engines. Digital-to-analog audio conversion comes courtesy of seven discrete 32-bit Burr-Brown DACs. From source device to output, audio and video signals are kept clean and clear for optimal performance.

Multi-Zone Audio and Bi-Amping Capability
If a seven-channel home theater is enough for you, you can assign channels to send audio to two other rooms of your home, perhaps via some in-ceiling speakers in the kitchen or bedroom. Select and play any audio you want in any zone using the remote app. Alternatively, you can bi-amp compatible front loudspeakers for improved audio performance.
Note: Multizone playback and bi-amping requires a compatible power amp.
AccuEQ Calibration for Pure Audio Performance
As part of our Emotion, Delivered audio concept, which brings together technologies that significantly improve both stereo and multichannel sound quality, Onkyo introduces the powerful AccuEQ room calibration system. AccuEQ measures and corrects speaker distances, levels, crossovers, and frequency response from one convenient listening position to ensure clear and cohesive surround-sound while enabling playback of 7.1-channel formats at 96 kHz (no down-sampling). For the ultimate in pure stereo performance, AccuEQ bypasses the front channels so the unique characteristics of your loudspeakers can be enjoyed without DSP correction to potentially alter the sound.

What do all the advanced Audio/Video features of the PR-SC5530 mean?
Onkyo's exclusive Theater-Dimensional circuitry takes the complexity out of conventional surround-sound setups and lets you experience the excitement of surround sound from as few as two ordinary speakers.
DTS-HD Master Audio™
is capable of delivering audio that is bit-for-bit identical to the studio master. DTS-HD Master Audio™ delivers audio at super-high variable bit rates—24.5 Mbps on Blu-ray Disc—which is significantly higher than standard DVDs. This bit stream is so fast, and the transfer rate is so high, that it can deliver 7.1 audio channels at a sampling frequency of 24 bits—identical to the original. With DTS-HD Master Audio™, you will be able to experience movies and music exactly as the artist intended: clear, pure, and uncompromised.
192 kHz/32-bit DACs
enable the best possible reproduction of standard and high-definition audio formats.
is a wireless transmission standard that uses short wave radio signals to connect mobile devices to computers and other compatible electronics.
AccuEQ calibration technology
reveals the true potential of your speakers by eliminating standing waves from your listening space. These acoustic peaks distort the audio image and prevent your loudspeakers from voicing the sound as their designers intended. AccuEQ lets you experience the whole sonic picture without changing your speaker system’s unique personality.
High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP)
is a form of digital copy protection developed by Intel Corporation to prevent copying of digital audio and video content as it travels across connections.
RIHD (Remote Interactive over HDMI) for System Control*
For A/V receivers
Select Onkyo A/V receivers offer integrated system control with certain HDMI-compatible high-definition displays, DVD and hard-disk recorders, and Blu-ray Disc players. With one remote control, you can control certain functions, including Standby, Volume and Direct Change. These receivers can seamlessly integrate with other compatible playback components and displays.
For DVD players
RIHD also enables selected Onkyo players to easily integrate with compatible Onkyo A/V receivers and other compatible displays.
*Compatibility depends on respective model.
RI (Remote Interactive)
Onkyo’s RI system lets you operate multiple RI-compatible components through a single remote control. RI capability also gives you further functionality with Onkyo’s Remote Interactive Dock for the iPod, including System On/System Off, Auto Power On, Auto Selector (Direct Change) and Timer functions.
Connecting to your home network using a standard LAN cable, Onkyo network A/V receivers and network hi-fi components offer music streaming, internet radio, and access to PC-based audio with outstanding sound quality. DLNA 1.5-certified network connectivity has the added benefit of making firmware updates simpler than ever. Wireless networking is enabled with an optional UWF-1 Wireless LAN Adapter.
HDMI™ (High-Definition Multimedia Interface)
Transporting high-definition (HD) video, 3D encoded HD video, and multi-channel HD audio, HDMI is the most desirable connection for home entertainment. Onkyo’s HDMI-enabled A/V components send and receive HD signals, connecting components such as Blu-ray Disc players, DVD players, media streamers, and gaming consoles to compatible HDTVs. Recent versions of HDMI also incorporate an ARC (Audio Return Channel) for sending audio from the TV tuner through the connected receiver, and for enabling the use of an overlaid high-definition GUI (Graphical User Interface) on Onkyo A/V receivers.
Consumer electronics manufacturers established the DLNA standard to enable entertainment devices connected to a home network to share their content with one another directly, without the need for a complex set-up procedure.
Marvell Qdeo™Video Chip
On selected Onkyo receivers/players, interlaced-to-progressive video conversion and scaling are performed by high-quality Qdeo technology from Marvell. Qdeo is a versatile video processor that uses algorithms designed to erase video noise and artifacts such as jaggies and feathering. Played back on a compatible wide-screen display, your Blu-ray Discs and DVDs will look more detailed and cinematic than ever.

ISF Video Calibration
ISF (Imaging Science Foundation) video calibration dramatically improves home theatre video by enabling sharper-focused, fuller-resolution images and a more accurate color balance. Turning your A/V receiver into a true video hub, this function ensures that every video source is independently calibrated for your connected high-definition display. Also, ISF video calibration has been shown to improve energy savings in displays and projectors by up to 50%
In addition to a Zone 2 line-out, selected Onkyo A/V receivers feature a Zone 3 line-out that allows an audio source to be distributed to a third room equipped with an amplifier and speakers. Users can play up to three audio sources across three zones simultaneously.

InstaPrevue technology makes switching HDMI inputs and choosing content much easier.
MHL (Mobile High Definition Link) is an interface protocol allowing the connection of compatible portable electronic devices such as smart phones to A/V receivers. The protocol transports uncompressed 1080p video stored on smart phone for display on HDTV, with up to 7.1-channels of surround sound. On selected Onkyo network receivers, smart phones can be connected via a designated front-panel MHL/HDMI port. While officially ‘connection agnostic’, MHL cables commonly feature an HDMI plug and Micro USB connector. Once linked to an Onkyo network receiver, the user can control their smart phone using the system remote. Smart phones are recharged upon connection, and no separate power supply for the device is necessary while connected to the receiver.
